Greyrock Forest Service Road Visit

For 10.9 km to Truax FSR

Near Gold Bridge, BC

Greyrock FSR Location: About 100 km West of Lillooet, near Gold Bridge, BC, along the south shore of Carpenter Lake.

Liked: Several fine views of Carpenter Lake. A fairly easy FSR to drive until shortly after Truax FSR start at 10.9 km.

Of Note: Steep muddy downhill past Truax FSR start at 10.9 km - 4x4 only, or you may not be able to drive back.

Vancouver, Coast & Mountains Backroad Mapbook (2019 edition) Park Coordinates : Page 51 (Gold Bridge) B3.

Greyrock Forest Service Road runs along the south shore of Carpenter Lake, whereas Highway 40 (from Lillooet to Gold Bridge) runs along the north shore of Carpenter Lake. Greyrock FSR begins in the settlement of Gold Bridge, which is located 103 km West of Lillooet. It is an easy to drive forest service road (2WD ok) all the way until the start of Truax FSR at the 10.9 km mark. Then, a steep muddy downhill would be better off left for 4x4 vehicles, lest your are interested in getting stuck on the way back in the middle of nowhere.

Greyrock FSR features several fine views of Carpenter Lake, with the most impressive one at the 2.3 km of the road. We have a video of the entire trip from entering Gold Bridge to reaching Truax FSR at the bottom of this trip report.

1. Here is a Google Maps location for Greyrock Forest Service Road near Gold Bridge, BC.

2. We start at the end of BC Highway 40. Lillooet is 103 km behind us, and Gold Bridge begins across the bridge on the left side.

3. The bridge across Bridge River leads to Gold Bridge.

4-5. 700 meters from the start of the bridge, there is a (seasonal?) self-serve gas station, the only one in the area. Credit cards only. No attendant.

6. Make a left turn onto Fergusson Street immediately after the gas station, and keep left at all subsequent intersections/junctions through Gold Bridge.

7. Bralorne Ave at Fergusson Ave. Keep left.

8. Bralorne Ave at Truax Street. One more left, and then it's straight all the way to Greyrock FSR.

10. Greyrock (Grey Rock on Google Maps) Forest Service Road starts 2.1 km from the end of BC Highway 40. Coordinates: N 5051.736' W 12249.814'. Elevation: 655 meters.

11. Greyrock FSR at the 1.2 km mark. It's an easy road to drive all the way to steep muddy downhill past Truax FSR start at 10.9 km.

12. A fine view of Carpenter Lake at this 1.2 km mark spot.

13. Now at the 1.6 km mark of Grey Rock Forest Service Road near Gold Bridge, British Columbia, Canada.

14. The best view of Carpenter Lake (at least all the way to Truax FSR start at 10.9 km) comes at the 2.1 km mark of Greyrock FSR. It's simply beautiful when the sun is out, and quite panoramic at all times.

15. Now at 3.3 km of Greyrock FSR.

16. Driving close to Carpenter Lake at the 6.3 km mark. BC Highway 40 is on the other side of the lake.

17. Now at 7.6 km of Grey Rock Forest Service Road.

18. At 8.8 km there is a split. Stay left.

19. At 10.7 km, we are approaching Truax Forest Service Road.

20. And here is the beginning of Truax FSR, on the right side, at 10.9 km of Greyrock Forest Service Road. Coordinates: N 5053.461' W 12242.500'. Elevation: 720 meters.

We then drove and hiked on Truax FSR (covered in the next trip report), but not before driving for 1.3 more km on Greyrock FSR until a steep muddy downhill, which should be left for 4x4 vehicles, lest you be stuck on the way back. Greyrock FSR has a great view of Carpenter Lake at the 2.1 km mark, and it goes further along the lake with possibly more great views further down the road. Recommended.
