British Columbia Aviation Museum Location:
1910 Norseman Road, North Saanich (near Victoria
International Airport). Liked: Aviation history coming alive before your eyes. Many cool exhibits, artefacts and life stories. An interesting gift shop. Free parking. Of Note: Some exhibits require a staff member to escort you (we thus could not visit the aircraft parked on the outside). The museum is popular. Related Website: BC Aviation Museum - Official Website. Follow @ihikebc Tweet![]() BC Aviation Museum is located in three hangars right on the side of Victoria International Airport. It has numerous cool airplane and other models, old photos and aviation artefacts, and several real airplanes, including the world's first pressurized turboprop aircraft, which was flown commercially in Canada by Air Canada's predecessor, Trans-Canada Airlines. It is possible to go inside with a tour guide and check out the cockpit and the cabin - a very cool experience. There are also many very fine mannequins of (mostly) pilots here and there, and numerous photographs from years past. There is also a children play area, where they can sit inside toy airplanes and even a helicopter, try a flight simulator, and imagine being pilots one day.
34. The main feature of the BC Aviation Museum is the world's first pressurized turboprop aircraft, Vickers Viscount, which was flown commercially in Canada by Air Canada's predecessor, Trans-Canada Airlines. Here is an information sign.
35-37. And here is Vickers Viscount itself, located in the next hangar (the hangars are attached to each other).
38-39. Once a tour guide is there, you may go inside and hear a story about this aircraft.
40. The cockpit of Vickers Viscount.
41. Vickers Viscount passenger cabin.
Here is our video of Vickers Viscount with a bit of a tour guide narrative:
More ihikebc videos are on our YouTube Channel. 42-43. And here is Noorduyn Norseman, which is featured on the logo of BC Aviation Museum.
44-45. Another fine mannequin here.
46. Inside Noorduyn Norseman.
47. Cockpit of Noorduyn Norseman.
48. There are also several planes outside, but an attendant's escort is required, so we used a zoom.
49. Here is Canadian Forces 104 Starfighter from 417 Squadron Special.
50. ConAir water bomber.
51. Consolidated PBY Catalina 5A flying boat.
52-54. Returning to the first hangar after the reception, here is a model of the earliest flying machine known to mankind, an Ornithopter by Leonardo Da Vinci, designed to fly like a bird by flapping wings.
55. Finally, we checked out the Memorial Room in the same hangar.
56-57. BC Museum of Aviation Memorial Room.
58. 1917 Royal Flying Cadet Corps.
59-60. Lots of cool old photos.
61-62. An exhibit dedicated to ladies in the air force.
63. A Red Cross member mannequin.
64. Remember this fine lady?
65. Come on, Peg - it'll be thrilling!
66. Some items from World War II airmen survival kit in case of a crash.
67. And here is a group photo of air force veterans.
BC Aviation Museum is a very interesting place to visit for adults and children alike. Highly recommended.
