Trailhead Location:
On Texada Island off BC Sunshine Coast, 19.4 km
from Gillies Bay general store via Gillies Bay Road, Shelter Point Road,
Bell Road, Texada FSR Branch 03, and Texada FSR Branch 09. Liked: Panoramic (if unspectacular) views from the peaks of Mount Davies, and a passable view from the top of Bloody Mountain. A mostly easy hike in a forest, several large moss-covered stones in the forest, shade in the forest, no bugs. Vancouver, Coast & Mountains Backroad Mapbook (2019 edition) Mt. Davies location: Page 8 (Texada Island) C2.Related Website: Texada Island - Wiki. Follow @ihikebc TweetMount Davies and Bloody Mountain are two small adjacent mountains located on Texada Island, a rather large island found between Sunshine Coast of British Columbia and Vancouver Island. There is a loop trail which connects both North and South peaks of Mount Davies, as well as the peak of Bloody Mountain. This trail is fairly easy, with a few short moderately difficult sections, and can be done in under 2 hours. The views from the peaks of Mount Davies are panoramic, if unspectacular, and the view from Bloody Mountain is substantially overgrown, though it's still there. *All trail distances are based on a GPS odometer and are approximate. 1. Here is a Google Maps location of Mount Davies on Texada Island.
2. We start on Texada FSR Branch 03 at a split where going right would lead to a BC Hydro substation in 700 meters. Hence, go left. This is the same location as photo #8 of our Anderson Bay Provincial Park trip report - so check it out for directions on getting up to here from Gillies Bay general store.
3. 900 meters later, turn right onto Texada FSR Branch 09. Coordinates: N 49⁰36.918' W 124⁰19.125'. Elevation: 570 meters.
4. Now on Texada Forest Service Road Branch 09 - 1.5 km after the split.
5. Two kilometers after the split there is a T-junction. Coordinates: N 49⁰35.997' W 124⁰18.676'. Elevation: 615 meters. Texada FSR Branch 02 starts on the right, and Branch 09 continues on the left. Turn left to stay on Branch 09.
6-7. In about 100 meters, Mount Davies and Bloody Mountain loop trail trailhead would be on the right side. The two trailheads are actually very close to each other, so you can either do a clockwise loop by going to Bloody Mountain first, or a counter-clockwise loop via Mount Davies and then Bloody Mountain.
8. We went the counter clockwise route, so here is a trail to Mount Davies 170 meters from the start.
9. Now at the 350 meter mark. It's an easy and pleasant hike through a forest, with a few short moderately steep sections.
10. One of the attractions of Mount Davies / Bloody Mountain loop trail are several large moss-covered stones, such as this one at 660 meters of the trail.
11-12. At 900 meters, there is a split. Mount Davies Trail is to the right, while the loop trail to Bloody Mountain continues on the left side. Coordinates: N 49⁰35.909' W 124⁰19.030'. Elevation: 680 meters.
13. We turned right to visit Mount Davies first. At 1.05 km here.
14. At 1.43 km another split. Mt. Davis South peak is to the right, and
North peak is to the left.
Coordinates: N
49⁰35.913'
W 124⁰19.223'.
Elevation: 745
meters.
15. We turned right, and are now close to reaching the South peak 220 meters later.
16. Almost there.
17. And here is Mount Davies South Peak, 260 meters from the split.
Coordinates: N
49⁰35.847'
W 124⁰19.146'.
Elevation: 760
meters.
18-22. The views here are quite panoramic, if not overly impressive. Left to right, followed by a panorama.
Here is Our Video of the Views from Mount Davies South Peak.
23. We are back at the South Peak split seen in photo #14.
24. Now heading to the North Peak of Mount Davies. Here we are 60 meters after the split.
25. Twenty-five meters later.
26. A view to the right 95 meters from the split.
27. We have reached the North Peak of Mount Davies 170 meters after the
split with the South Peak access trail.
Coordinates: N
49⁰35.925'
W 124⁰19.202'.
Elevation: 770
meters.
28. Fairly decent views. Looking straight.
29. Looking left-ish.
30. Now a panorama - looking straight.
31-32. And a few views looking straight and a bit to the right.
Here is Our Video of the Views from
Mount Davies North Peak.
More ihikebc videos are on
our YouTube Channel. 33. We have now returned to the Mount Davies / Bloody Mountain split seen in photo #11. Proceeding to Bloody Mountain.
34. At 150 meters past the split.
35. At 470 meters, going left would conclude the loop trail, and going
right is the way to the peak of Bloody Mountain.
Coordinates: N
49⁰35.761'
W 124⁰18.825'.
Elevation: 670
meters.
36. Off to the peak of Bloody Mountain we go.
37. 55 meters later.
38. And 280 meters from the latest split we are at the top of Bloody
Mountain. Here is the view.
Coordinates: N
49⁰35.680'
W 124⁰18.667'.
Elevation: 695
meters.
The Mount Davies / Bloody Mountain loop trail on Texada Island is mostly easy, goes through a pleasant forest, and has some views. Recommended.
